Several Hospitalized And Wanted Man Arrested After Police Chase Leads to Multi Vehicle Crash

Several people are hospitalized after a police chase leads to a crash in Cumberland. According to Maryland State Police on Monday March 2, 2020, a trooper from the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack was on duty in his marked police cruiser on westbound I-68 prior to Willowbrook Road when he observed a gray Infinity pass his location commit a traffic violation. The trooper activated his audio and visual safety equipment and attempted to catch up to the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop. The trooper observed the vehicle exit onto the Willowbrook Road exit and turned right on to Baltimore Avenue. As the Trooper got off that exit he lost sight of the vehicle for a few seconds. Upon cresting a hill on Baltimore Avenue, the Trooper observed the aforementioned Infinity traveling down Baltimore Avenue going the wrong way and striking another vehicle head on which caused the two vehicles behind the struck vehicle to rear end the vehicles in front of them. The trooper called out the accident and called for EMS. There were four males in the aforementioned Infinity (vehicle 1), one male occupant in the second vehicle (vehicle 2), a male and a female occupant in the third vehicle (vehicle 3) and one female in the fourth vehicle (vehicle 4). Vehicle 1, 2 and 3 were disabled and all of their occupants were taken to UPMC Western Maryland for non-life threatening injuries. Vehicle number four had minor cosmetic damage and the female occupant refused medical attention. The driver of vehicle number one initially gave the trooper a fake name and was later found to be wanted on several warrants in several different states including Maryland.
