SC Man Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charges

A South Carolina man is arrested on animal cruelty charges. According to the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office on February 18th, 2021 the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division investigated a report of animal cruelty that occurred along National Pike in Grantsville. Upon investigation, it was discovered that an 11 month old pit bull had sustained large lacerations across its back as a result of being repeatedly struck. The investigation revealed that the incident occurred in the cab of a tractor trailer truck by the truck driver/dog’s owner while traveling in Garrett County. The dog was treated for the wounds by a veterinarian and was seized by Animal Control. Further investigation revealed that the weapon used in the incident was discarded by the suspect alongside the road. Animal Control deputies later recovered a large, sheathed, bowie knife at the crime scene. On February 19th a felony arrest warrant for aggravated animal cruelty was obtained for 44 year old Lorenzo R. Davis of Sumter, South Carolina. On February 25th Animal Control along with Garrett County Sheriff’s Deputies located Davis operating his tractor trailer along National Pike in Garrett County and executed a traffic stop resulting in his arrest. He was taken to the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. Davis was charged with one count of felony aggravated cruelty to an animal and two counts of animal cruelty.
