Grant County Teacher Faces Sexual Assault Charges

A Grant County Public School teacher faces charges of sexual assault. 28 year old Jonathan McNemar was arrested August 10th following an investigation by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. He was a social studies teacher at Petersburg High School .  He is being held on $115,000.00 bail.

According to a press release from Grant County Public Schools the administration is aware that McNemar was charged in Magistrate Court of Grant County with several felony charges. Administration officials attended his probable cause hearing on Aug 18th where probable case was found. According to the statement from the school system the allegations if true are shocking and wholly unacceptable of anyone let alone an employee of the school system. At the next board meeting August 25th the board will recommend to accept McNemar’s resignation which was given on August 18th in lieu of proceeding with the steps of terminating his employment, a process that could jeopardize the criminal process and involve witnesses. As required by law the West Virginia Department of Education which oversees teacher licenses was notified of his arrest and is aware of the resignation and school officials believe the WVDE will take appropriate steps to ensure he never teaches again regardless of the outcome of the criminal process. Although they are hopeful there are no other students who are victims they encourage those with concerns to contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Department.
