FSU Police Officer Punched and Four Face Charges

An FSU Police Officer punched while breaking up a fight Sunday morning is recovering and four people are arrested. According to FSU officials at about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 17  a fight between about six men started at an exterior entranceway to the residence hall Westminster Hall. Two FSU police officers entered the entranceway to break up the fight, at which point one was punched in the face, and pepper spray was deployed to break up the fight.  The officers had been on hand to disperse several groups of people totaling about 125 who were gathered in the area of the downhill residence halls following the end of a dance at the Lane University Center.  FSU Police and officers from allied police agencies (Allegany County Sheriff’s Department, Frostburg City Police and Maryland State Police) dispersed the crowds in the area within 30 minutes.  The FSU officer who was punched was taken to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment and released.  Multiple charges are pending against four individuals. According to FSU officials FSU police handled two arrests, including one who was arrested in connection with punching the officer and has been identified as Anthony Jeffries. Frostburg City Police and Allegany County Sheriff’s Office handled the other two arrests. The identities of the others who were arrested have not yet been released.
