Fatal Hardy County Shooting Is An Isolated Incident

Hardy County Sheriff’s officials say the fatal shooting Monday morning was an isolated incident. According to Chief Deputy Jon Baniak the victim and the suspects knew one another. He says the investigation is still underway and an exact motive for the shooting has not yet been released. Baniak says at about 7am emergency crews were called to the scene along Sperrys Run Rd for reports of shots fired. When they arrived they found 22 year old Dustin Hinkle dead. 22 year old Robert Greenfield of Rig was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. 23 year old Christopher Mason of Petersburg was also arrested at the scene and charged with wanton endangerment. Both were arrested without incident and are being held at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail. Baniak says he wants to reassure the public that the shooting was an isolated incident. He says the Hardy County Sheriff’s Office is also grateful to the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police for their assistance at the scene.
