Cumberland Woman Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charges

A Cumberland woman is arrested on animal cruelty charges. According to Cumberland Police officials yesterday at approximately 6:23 pm Cumberland Police Officers responded to the area of Queen City Drive for a report of Animal Cruelty.  When officers arrived they spoke to a witness, who stated he observed a female, who was later identified as 36 year old  Ashley Dashiell, hitting a small dog.  The witness stated they observed Dashiell hit the small dog several times in the head and then attempt to place the dog in a trash can.  Officers then contacted Dashiell who was carrying a sealed black backpack.  At the time they contacted Dashiell she swung the backpack over her shoulder very quickly.  Officers asked her about the small dog at which time she took the backpack off of her shoulder and dropped it to the concrete sidewalk.  She then unzipped the fully closed backpack and revealed the small dog.  The dog appeared to be injured and was visibly shaking.  Dashiell had no food or water for the small dog.  Dashiell was then placed under arrest and was transported to the Cumberland Police Department.  Allegany County Animal Control was called and took custody of the small dog.  Dashiell was processed and transported to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office.  Dashiell was then remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.
