Two West Virginia Residents Arrested in Cumberland on Drug Charges

Two West Virginia residents are arrested in Cumberland on drug charges. According to Cumberland Police on October 15th, 2020, Officer with the Cumberland City Police observed a passenger vehicle in the area of Oak St. commit a traffic violation. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and the occupants of the vehicle were identified as 21 year old Javonte Tyrei Prout and 19 year old Manuel Jamal Benton both of Charleston WV. During the course of the stop, probable cause was developed to conduct and search of the vehicle. The subsequent search yielded quantities of suspected marijuana, methamphetamines, and oxycodone. As a result, both Prout and Benton were placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing. Both were taken before the District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearances. Both were remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center, held on bonds of $7500 each.
