Traffic Stop Leads To Arrests

A traffic stop leads to two drug related arrests. According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on patrol along I-68 in Cumberland at about 11:30pm on Sept 21st. Deputies observed a Pontiac passenger car traveling at a high rate of speed; the vehicle was also observed to have a registration display violation. A traffic stop was conducted and deputies subsequently requested a K9 scan of the vehicle. A Sheriff’s Office K9 handler responded with K9 Suma, who alerted to the presence of the odor of a controlled dangerous substance within the vehicle.

A search was conducted and deputies located a loaded 9 mm handgun within the vehicle, over $20,000.00 in US Currency as well as numerous capsules containing suspected controlled dangerous substances.

Deputies arrested:
Ramhazz Khaliph Corley-36 years old of Dunbar, WV. and Javon Jamie Smith-28 years old of Philadelphia, PA.

Both suspects were charged with:
Handgun in Vehicle
Loaded Handgun in Vehicle
Handgun on Person
Loaded Handgun on Person

The suspects were released after an initial appearance before a district court commissioner.Additional charges are pending laboratory confirmation of the unknown CDS.The vehicle was impounded and the firearm, CDS and currency was seized by the Sheriff’s Office.
