Portion Of I-68 To Reopen Following Accident Sunday

A portion of I-68 westbound will remain reopen Tuesday morning. According to SHA officials the accident Sunday involving a tractor trailer losing its load on I-68 in the area of Johnson Street caused extensive damage to the roadway. The equipment made a deep gouge in the roadway that extended more than 12 inches in one location and caused less extensive damage to other sections of the road surface. The lane will need to be closed until the more than 12 inches of new material has time to cool. If opened to soon the area will become rutted which could cause a safety concern. Due to the temperature and thickness of the material used to repair the damage to the interstate, traffic will remain in the current traffic pattern until 6 am Tuesday.
