Oakland Woman Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

An Oakland woman faces animal cruelty charges. According to the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division on July 20th, 2021 Leslie R. Gillespie, age 43, of Oakland pled guilty to three counts of animal cruelty and neglect and failure to provide vet care. Gillespie was a wheaten terrier and poodle breeder who ran Wheaten Hills Breeding Facility but no longer breeds dogs. Gillespie was sentenced to 15 days incarceration and 18 months supervised probation. This is a result of the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control search warrant that lead to the discovery of 9 malnourished dogs that were covered in matted fur covered in mud and feces.
