Man Found Safe Near National Pike

A man reported missing in Flintstone is found along National Pike. According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office at about 9:30 last night deputies were called out to search for an 81 year old man suffering from dementia who had left his home on foot. Natural Resources Police, Orleans Fire Department, Trooper 5 and an MSP bloodhound were all called to assist with the search. Cumberland Police received information that the man may have been seen walking along National Pike several miles away near Mountain Road around 8:30 pm.  According to the Sheriff’s Office an NRP Officer responded to the area and was able to hear the sound of a person moaning in the woods quite a ways from the roadway. NRP investigated the sound and located the elderly male who was lying on the cold wet ground. EMS evaluated the man and he was subsequently transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for evaluation. He appeared to be physically uninjured, but was suffering from some degree of exposure to the 50 degree air temperature and the damp environment. According to Sheriff’s Officials the positive outcome was no doubt a reflection of the great teamwork amongst all the personnel and agencies involved in the search, including the dispatching and relaying of information by the Allegany County Joint Operations Center (911).
