Law Enforcement Warn of Door to Door Testing Scam

According to Allegany County Department of Emergency Services officials local public safety officials are warning the public of a door-to-door sham offering to test the residents for the COVID-19 virus.

“Citizens should remain hyper-vigilant of people coming door-to-door offering to test you for the COVID-19 virus,” Allegany County Department of Emergency Services Director James Pyles said. “DES learned of the sham late Friday night and wants residents to know that at this time no emergency service unit or public health officials are conducting this type of testing.”

Pyles indicated that numerous people in Allegany and Garrett counties have reported this sham and are posting about it on social media.

“This is such a challenging time for everyone, the citizens, public safety workers, hospital personnel and public health staff but I want to reenforce that we are not conducting door-to-door testing,” Pyles said. “If someone comes to your home and advises you of such, please report this activity to local law enforcement officials.”

Pyles continued that any information about the subjects: the clothes they were wearing, identifiable markings, their approximate age, vehicle they were driving or tag number would be extremely beneficial in locating impersonators.
