Investigation Underway After Bodies Found in Car

An investigation is underway after a Maryland woman and her estranged husband are found dead in a car in Washington County. According to officials with the Washington County Sherriff’s Office at about 8:30 yesterday morning deputies responded to Keep Tyrst Road, Knoxville, in the area of the turn-about, for a reported motor vehicle accident.A black Nissan passenger car with a West Virginia license plate was located on the grass embankment by the turn-about. A deceased male and female were located in the vehicle. It was quickly determined that the injuries sustained to both individuals were not the result of a motor vehicle collision. The deceased have been identified as Kelly 27 year old Lorraine Shortt-Hamilton of Brunswick, MD and her estranged husband 44 year old Daniel Ray Shortt Sr. Shortt-Hamilton and Shortt both suffered from gunshot wounds. Their bodies have been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for autopsy. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has been working with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office in reference to the connection of this incident and a house fire the Frederick County Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating.
