Hover Board Causes House Fire in Mineral County

A house fire in Ridgeley is caused by a hover board malfunction. According to Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief Steve Shipley at about 1am on Tuesday morning crews were called out to Main Street. When crews arrived they found a hover board plugged into a wall to charge had malfunctioned and caught fire. Shipley says the fire extended up the walls and across the ceiling. The owner’s son, using quick thinking grabbed an extinguisher and attempted to put out the fire before leaving the structure. Shipley says he is surprised how quickly the fire spread.  Shipley says they hope this is a learning experience and remind residents to never charge a hover board overnight or when you are away from your residence. The hover board owner has donated the device to the fire department to be used for fire prevention education.
