July 11th – July 17th

Tuesday July 12th

11:00 AM Red Trail Hike–Explore Herrington Manor State Park and burn some calories hiking on the Red Trail. Meet a naturalist at the visitors center for the ~1 hour long hike. This hike is great for beginners!

 

Wednesday July 13th

8:00 Early Bird Hike – Join a Naturalist at the Rocky Gap State Park Nature Center for a leisurely guided bird hike. This hike will last approximately 1 hour and walkers will go along the Lake Side Loop Trail searching for the feathered friends of RGSP while learning basic biding techniques.

 

6:00 PM Hike with Fido – Enjoy a mid-week hike along the shores of Rocky Gap’s Lake Habeebwith your four legged best friend! All dog lovers are welcome whether you have a pup to bring or not! Meet a naturalist at the Rocky Gap Amphitheatre (off of pleasant Valley Road). *Please only bring dogs that are known to be friendly with other dogs

Thursday July 14th

1:00 PM Oh Deer! –Come play this high energy game to learn about deer populations.Meet at the Rocky Gap Nature Center.

3:00 PM Settler’s Hike – Join a Naturalist on this fun fitness hike along the Settler’s Path and Lakeside Loop trails at Rocky Gap State Park. This moderate hike takes approximately 3 hours. Hikers should bring water and wear comfortable hiking shoes.

5:00 PM Weekday Wellness Workout – Join a Rocky Gap Ranger for a scenic 2.5 mile trail run. Meet at the Day Use area North Beach. All running levels welcome.

Friday July 15th

1:00 PM Tree ID Hike – Learn about the different tree species at Rocky Gap while hiking with naturalists along part of the Lakeside Loop Trail. Meet at the Nature Center for the hour long hike.
1:00 PM Deep Creek Loop Hike – Meet at Deep Creek Lake State Park Headquarters (898 State Park Rd. Swanton, MD), to join Ranger Tillett on an invigorating 2.5 hour, 5-mile hike through the northern hardwoods forests of Deep Creek Lake State Park. Stretch your legs and enjoy walking past blooming wildflowers on this moderate trail up to the Thayerville fire tower past the Brant Mine, then back down through the Indian Turnip Trail. Sturdy hiking boots and water recommended.

 

5:00 PM Lakeside Loop Trail Hike – Meet at the Rocky Gap Nature Centerfor a gorgeous 5.3 mile hike along the shores of Lake Habeeb. Enjoy great views while hiking past beaver lodges and through hardwood forests. Please bring plenty of water, snacks and wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes on this intermediate level hike.

 

Saturday July 16th

10:00 AM Native Plant Hike – Pick up some native plant knowledge while enjoying a pleasant morning hike with our local plant expert.Meet at the Rocky Gap Nature Center.

1:00 PM Lake Exploration/Seining – Join a Rocky Gap Naturalist at the Amphitheater (off of Pleasant Valley Road) to explore what critters make  their home in Lake Habeeb. Be ready to get wet! Water shoes are recommended.

5:00 PM Canyon Overlook Hike – Meet at the Touch of Nature parking lot (past Rocky Gap Casino Resort), to join us on this short hike through an old hemlock forest and view the ‘gap’ of Rocky Gap. This 45 minutehikeis great for beginners and families!
