Grantsville Man Sentenced on Burglary and Reckless Endangerment

A Grantsville man pleads guilty to fourth degree burglary and reckless endangerment. 22 year old Zachary Merill was sentenced to spend one year behind bars on the burglary charge. Merrill was sentenced to five years in the Division of Correction, to run concurrently, with all of the sentence suspended except for the time he has served pending trial.  He will be on probation upon his release. Merrill was arrested and charged in March after police and emergency officials responded to his home for what was originally report as a self-inflicted rifle wound by a female.  Investigation by Maryland State Police determined that Merrill had earlier that date entered a nearby residence from where he stole a handgun and, while pointing it in the direction of the victim, discharged a round which struck the victim in the hip and buttock area.
