A Frostburg man is arrested after allegedly stealing an SUV. According to Allegany County Sheriff’s officials on July 9, 2016 the Frostburg Police Department received a complaint of a stolen Toyota sport utility vehicle. The vehicle was later located by a Frostburg officer and the operator of the vehicle failed to stop. Officers gave chase of the vehicle into the Garrett County area where the operator was able to elude the pursuing officers. On July 10, 2016 an off-duty Frostburg Police officer observed the same vehicle in the Cumberland area and notified the Allegany County dispatch center. Cumberland Police officers were able to locate the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the Canal Parkway, but the operator refused to stop and fled into West Virginia. A short time later an Allegany County Sheriff’s deputy observed the vehicle traveling on Rt. 956 onto McMullen Highway. The deputy followed the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop as the vehicle turned and traveled south on McMullen Highway in the Cresaptown area. The operator of the vehicle again failed to stop and the deputy pursued the vehicle on McMullen Highway towards Keyser. The vehicle continued on Rt. 220 into the Keyser area where the Keyser Police Department continued the pursuit. The operator traveled through Keyser and attempted to pull into a parking lot and lost control and struck a large sign, causing disabling damage to the vehicle. The driver exited the vehicle and fled the crash scene on foot. A search was completed of the area and an Allegany County Sheriff’s deputy was able to locate the subject attempting to hide in a wooded area behind Polish Pines golf course. The subject was taken into custody after a struggle with Allegany County authorities and a member of the West Virginia State Police.  The operator of the vehicle was identified as 20 year old Justin Michael Demoss of Frostburg, Maryland. Demoss was taken into custody by the West Virginia State Police to be charged. Charges will be completed by Allegany County authorities.
