Family Being Helped By Red Cross Following Accidental Fire

A mother and her four children are being assisted by the American Red Cross following a fire earlier this week. According to Cumberland Fire Marshal Shannon Adams the fire broke out around 6am Wednesday morning on Pear Street. The fire was ruled accidental due to combustibles too close to a space heater. The family was asleep at the time the blaze broke out. Operating smoke alarms alerted the family to the fire. The fire caused about $30 thousand dollars in damage. Cumberland Fire Department received assistance from LaVale and Ridgeley VFD at the scene and Bedford Road and Keyser VFD stood by for Cumberland. One person suffered from smoke inhalation and was transported by a Cumberland Fire Department ambulance.
