Elk Garden Man Charged After Leading Law Enforcement On A Chase

An Elk Garden man is behind bars after leading Garrett County Sheriff’s Deputies on a high speed chase. According to the Garrett County Sheriff’s office on Feb 24th at about 6:30 pm deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on Garrett Highway near Weber Road. The driver 23 year old Corey Bircher failed to stop and lead law enforcement officials on a high speed chase for about 12 miles. While deputies were attempting to stop the vehicle driven by Bircher he struck deputies vehicles several times with his vehicle. Deputies were able to stop him on North Hill Road. Two passengers in Bircher’s vehicle including a two year old child were taken to Garrett Regional Medical Center to be checked for possible injuries. One of the deputies also sustained injuries during the pursuit. Bircher is charged with driving on a suspended license out of state, attempting to elude police, driving an uninsured vehicle, reckless driving, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to drive right of center, speeding, displaying register tags belonging to another vehicle, driving the wrong direction on a one way road, exceeding the speed 90 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone and first and second degree assault. He is being held at the Garrett County Detention Center.
