Driver of Tractor Trailer Hospitalized Following Crash

The driver of a tractor trailer is hospitalized and I-68 remains shut down. According to Maryland State Police officials just before 1am this morning trooper were called out to eastbound I-68 near mile marker 29 for a personal injury accident. When they arrived they found the tractor trailer overturned on the driver’s side in the center median. The tractor trailer was passing a passenger car, hit the car then lost control, traveled into the center median and hit the guardrail then overturned on to the driver’s side. The driver 65 year old Mack Monroe of Alabama was trapped inside and had to be rescued. He was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for injuries.  Eastbound I-68 is currently closed while the tractor trailer is being removed from the median. Traffic is being diverted off Exit 29 (Finzel Rd) and back onto eastbound I-68.
