Cumberland Man Arrested on Drug Charges

A Cumberland man is arrested on drug charges. According to Cumberland Police on March 2, 2021 officers an Arrest Warrant on 32 year old Cody Waites of Cumberland, Maryland. The Arrest Warrant stemmed from a February 26, 2021 incident where Waites was stopped by a Cumberland Police Officer for a traffic violation. Officers contacted Waites and observed him attempting to conceal suspected crack cocaine. Officers placed Waites under arrest. A search of Waites revealed that he was concealing a large quantity of suspected fentanyl and herion. Subsequently, the officers involved in the incident were exposed to the fentanyl and heroin during the incident, and were later treated and released from UPMC Western Maryland. Officers involved in the incident applied for charges on Waites in District Court, and a Warrant was issued charging him with two counts of CDS: possession with intent to distribute narcotics, CDS: possession large amount, two counts of CDS: possession not marijuana, reckless endangerment, obstructing and hindering, and obstruct justice. Waites was taken to District Court for his Initial Appearance and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
