Cumberland Man Arrested On Burglary Charges

A Cumberland man is arrested and faces several charges following a burglary investigation. According to Cumberland Police on June 3, 2016 the Cumberland Police responded to a residence in the 800 block of Edgewood Drive in reference to a burglary complaint.  Contact was made with the victim who advised that on June 2 he was the victim of a burglary and theft.  That incident was reported to the Cumberland Police at the time.  Information had been developed that a dark colored pickup truck was involved in the burglary.  This information was obtained from surveillance video gathered in the area.  On the morning of June 3rd the victim was contacted by a neighbor who told the victim a black pickup truck had backed into the driveway of the victim’s garage.  The bed of the black pickup truck was in the victim’s garage.  The neighbor believed this to be the same suspect vehicle from the night before.  The police were contacted and when they arrived they located the suspect, 37 year old  Michael Francis Beem, still on scene.  A search was conducted on the pickup truck and some of the victim’s property was located inside.  Upon further investigation it was discovered a neighbor’s property was also in the pickup truck and that too had been stolen.  Also located in Beem’s possession was a stolen registration plate.  It was discovered the registration plates attached to the suspect pickup truck were actually for another vehicle. Further evidence was collected and interviews were conducted.  Information was developed that more stolen property was at a residence in the 400 block of Walnut Street.  A search warrant was executed at the residence and more stolen property was recovered.  Items from a separate theft that occurred on June 1st were also found.  In that incident a vehicle was entered and items were stolen.  The items were returned to their owners. Beem was arrested and charged with Burglary, theft, and related charges.  He was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on $30,000 pending his next appearance in District Court.  The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation (C3I) Unit and the Maryland State Police assisted in the investigation.
