Cumberland Man Arrested on Assault and Animal Cruelty Charges

A Cumberland man is behind bars on assault and animal cruelty charges. According to Cumberland Police on June 30, 2020 at 6:44 pm CPD officers were dispatched to a West Industrial Boulevard residence for a report of a disturbance.  Upon arrival, officers observed Corey Francis Shriner, age 22, in the yard of the residence striking a dog with an object while in an altercation with several other people.  Officers ordered Mr. Shriner to stop and he fled inside a nearby residence.

Officers then attempted to make contact with Shriner inside his residence but found him to be combative and continually threw items striking officers while barricading the entry points with furniture.   Police negotiators arrived on the scene and after approximately one-hour Corey Shriner exited the residence on his own and was taken into custody without incident.

Corey Shriner was subsequently charged with several counts of assault and animal cruelty.   He is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center.
