Cumberland Man Arrested in Hit And Run Another Man Charged with Hindering

A Cumberland man is arrested on hit and run charges and another man is arrested for obstructing justice. According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office on Feb 25th at approximately 1:35am deputies responded to Piney Mountain Road in Frostburg Maryland for a reported pedestrian hit and run.It was learned that a resident and his son were walking along the road when a car struck the father and then fled the scene. The victim was transported to Western Maryland Health System and ultimately to WVU Hospital in Morgantown, WV with life-threatening injuries.  A check of the area for the suspect vehicle yielded no results.  A press release requesting the help of the community yielded several leads that were investigated. Pursuant to the investigation on Feb 26th 19 year old Isiaiah Gregory Spriggs of Cumberland MD, was charged with the following:  Failure to Stop at the Scene of Accident Involving Bodily Injury, Failure to Return to the Scene of Accident Involving Bodily Injury, DWI-CDS, DWI-So Far Impaired Cannot Drive Safely, Driving Vehicle in Excess of Reasonable Speed, Failure to Control speed to Avoid a Collision, Negligent Driving, Reckless Driving, Spriggs’ trial date is pending.  During the investigation another contact that deputies had developed attempted to impede the investigation with false information.  19 year old Mario Anthony D’Atri  of Cumberland, was charged with False Statement, Obstruction of Justice, Hindering and Alter Physical Evidence. D’Atri was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center pending an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.  The Allegany County Sheriff”s Office is grateful to those who provided information in this case, most importantly for the benefit of the victim and their family.
