Cumberland Man Arrested Following Assault With A Knife

A Cumberland man is arrested after an assault involving a knife. According to Cumberland Police on Sunday, August 16th, 2020 officers responded to the area of E. Harrison Street for the report of an assault. When officers arrived, contact was made with a male victim and a witness who stated for no apparent reason, an unknown male armed with a knife, ran up to him and kicked him knocking him to the ground. The victim and the suspect then fought on the ground for a brief period of time. The unknown male suspect then fled on foot. Officers obtained a description of the suspect which was broadcasted to other officers. A suspect matching the description was observed a short time later in the downtown area and fled from officers on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended. He was identified as 43 year old Andre Tarise Battle. Battle was charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault, disorderly conduct, and trespassing. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held without bond. The male victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault and refused medical treatment.
