COVID-19 Daily Update

Frostburg State University Now Registering Students for Vaccinations Through April 13 Working with the Allegany County Health Department, UPMC Western Maryland and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Frostburg State University is now registering FSU students for appointments to deliver vaccinations for the single-dose Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine.

Appointments must be scheduled by FSU students ahead of time (no walk-ups allowed) for a FEMA mobile vaccination unit clinic on the Frostburg State campus starting April 8, with appointment times available each afternoon through April 13. Appointments (no walk-ups allowed) are also available at UPMC Western Maryland for FSU students with their own transportation to the hospital on Friday, April 9 and must be scheduled ahead of time as well.

FSU employees are also eligible for the vaccinations. FSU students and employees are able to access the appointments through information provided in emails to their FSU accounts with links and times.

In efforts to ensure that all Allegany County Seniors 60 and older, have been vaccinated or are scheduled for their first vaccination appointment, we are asking that any individual 60 and older that has not yet received or been scheduled for a COVID vaccine call 301-783-1770 today Friday April 9th from 8am-4pm.

The Garrett County Health Department is interested in hearing from persons who have a medical background and may be able to commit to assisting the Health Department in their vaccination efforts. As vaccine supplies increase, additional vaccinators may be hired as temporary contract employees.

“If you have a healthcare background and would be available to help vaccinate individuals for COVID-19, please contact us,” said Garrett County Health Officer Bob Stephens. “We are interested in speaking with current or retired nurses, paramedics, EMTs, physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, dentists, etc. who have a desire and the time to assist us with our vaccination efforts.”

Anyone interested in discussing the possibilities of helping with the community vaccination program should call the Health Department at 301-334-7700.
