A Garrett County man pleads guilty to two cases in Circuit Court. 27
year old Tyler Lee White of Mt. Lake Park, pled guilty in the Circuit
Court in two cases. In the first case, White pled guilty to possession
with intent to distribute fentanyl. Related charges were dismissed upon
his plea. White was charged in July when officers with the Garrett
County Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at his residence
and located a quantity of fentanyl that was consistent with
the intent to distribute. In the second case, White pled guilty to two
counts of second-degree assault, to possession with intent to distribute
fentanyl, to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and
to attempting to elude police. Related charges from this event were also
dismissed upon his plea.
These charges were placed later in July
when officers with the Garrett County Narcotics Task Force asked
officers with marked vehicles to stop a car believed to be driven by
White for a traffic violation. After the vehicle was stopped along
Garrett Highway near Lake Shore Drive, White and his passenger were
asked to get out of the car so it could be scanned by a certified
drug-detection dog. Instead of complying with the directive, White fled
from the scene, with his vehicle brushing the officer as he pulled
away, which led to the first of the assault charges. That officer and
others at the scene chased White’s vehicle until he was stopped over
seven miles later, north of Oakland. During the chase, White had driven
his vehicle into the side of a State Trooper’s vehicle, leading to the
second assault charge. A search of White’s vehicle and his person led to
the recovery of a large quantity of fentanyl and methamphetamine, as
well as various quantities of other prescription and narcotic pills.
After finding White guilty on his pleas and the statement of facts by
State’s Attorney Lisa Thayer Welch, Judge Ray Strubin ordered a
pre-sentence investigation report be completed prior to sentencing and
remanded White back to the Garrett County Detention Center where he has
been housed since the second arrest. The sentencing hearing will be
scheduled when the PSI report is filed with the Court. Trial for the
passenger in White’s vehicle remains pending.
