Your life experience is very valuable to children who need a special person. Foster Grandparents make strong connections with children and receive great satisfaction from making a difference in their lives. Now – The Downtown Cumberland Farmers’ Market is a place where the community meets each week to enjoy fresh produce, locally grown fruits, vegetables, plants, organic products, fresh seafood, prepared foods, as well as the work of local artists and craftspeople. The market sets up every Thursday from 9:30 am – 2 pm on Baltimore Street in Historic City Center from May to October.

Now – Hounds Around Town – Looking for a day filled with furry friends and fun???Then look no further than the Allegany County Animal Shelter’s “Hounds Around Town” program, which allows individuals to sign a shelter dog out for the day.  Being situated in the beautiful mountains of Western Maryland presents a great opportunity for our shelter dogs to experience the joy of a long walk, hike or run in many of the area’s scenic locations. Looking for something more low-key? No problem, we have many pups that would enjoy an afternoon lounging on a couch, a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood or maybe a trip for ice cream. The most important thing is you are giving an adoptable shelter dog a much-needed break from the kennels and providing enrichment and socialization. For more information on the Hounds Around Town program, contact the shelter at 301-777-5930.

The program explores: mind-body connection, connection between food and chronic pain, benefits of physical activity, and ways to communicate with your doctor and family. Sessions run from 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm, each Wednesday through March 24th. The program is virtual, and a zoom link will be sent once registration is complete. Our local FFA members have been gearing up for the annual South Branch Valley Ham, Bacon, and Egg Sale. We are excited to announce that we will be able to return to an in-person sale for this year’s event! Student products available for sale will include Hickory Smoked Hams and Bacons, as well as Farm Fresh Eggs. FFA members will be participating from the East Hardy, Moorefield, Pendleton, and Petersburg FFA Chapters. The sale will take place the evening of Friday, March 18th. We welcome you to join us for a buyer’s reception, beginning at 4 p.m. in the Moorefield High Cafeteria. This will give you an opportunity to browse the products for sale and meet with FFA members who will be showing their products. The auction will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. Previous buyers that are already registered in our system only need to obtain a bid card the night of the auction. Any new or interested buyers or attendees may register on the evening of the sale. If you would like, you may also preregister by calling the Moorefield High School Agriculture department at 304-530-6034 ext. 9426. Enjoy and assortment of egg surprises and there will be a small fee for additional activities including face painting, bunny photos and crafts. All proceeds will benefit the organization.

APRIL 9th The 5th Annual Charity Shader 5K Race race will take place in Frostburg on April 9, 2022. Currently, they are looking for volunteers and runners. APRIL 9th The Mountain Arts Guild (MAG) invites local artisans and makers to apply for space at the Spring Artisan Market to be held April 9 at the Fort Ashby Fire Department. Space is limited, so applications will be juried to avoid duplication and guarantee product quality. To be considered, artwork must be designed and created by the artist. No commercial vendors or resale items will be allowed. Interested artists can view and download the application form and event flyer at https://www.mountainartsguild.com/programs, or request one by sending an email message to [email protected] There is no fee to apply. Selected artists will receive notification and an invoice for the booth fee prior to the event.The deadline for applications to be received is Monday, March 21, 2022. Cumberland Pride is back! We can’t wait to celebrate with you! On June 5th we will gather at Canal Place in downtown Cumberland to bring back our beloved festival.
Headliner is Miss Toto!!!! Raised here with all of us, Miss Toto aka the Bodybuilding Barbie Miss Toto now lives in Chicago, IL but started drag in Miami. She is a shark tagging, bodybuilding, international DJ/ drag sensation. Outside of being a drag queen, she has taken her passion for philanthropy to raise over $50,000 for the BLM movement. We can’t wait to see her rock our stage!

Celebrating Allegany County’s Oldest Community, Oldtown Summerfest combines the history of Thomas Cresap, who founded Oldtown in 1741, with many fun events for the entire family. FREE TO THE PUBLIC: 2022 marks the 22nd year for our SUMMERFEST. This annual event is run entirely by volunteers and draws visitors to our historic town. The festival features a parade, car show, local vendors, musical entertainment, and activities for all ages.
