Traffic Stop Leads To Arrests

An attempted traffic stop resulted in a pursuit according to the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office December 24, 2019 at about 5:00 P.M. Deputy Austin Shockey was patrolling when he observed a suspect vehicle speeding on Bloomery Pike (Rt. 29N). According to a press release from the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Shockey turned on the vehicle in an attempt to make a traffic stop and the vehicle quickly reached speeds of nearly 80 mph. The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren and the vehicle continued to increase in speed and the pursuit started. The suspect vehicle reached speeds of near 110 mph and was passing other vehicles. The suspect vehicle continued and turned on Hickory Corner Road, nearly striking another vehicle. The pursuit then continued onto Zion Church Road and then Gibbons Run Road. The driver of the suspect vehicle lost control on Gibbons Run Road and crashed. There were three occupants in the vehicle. At first the three males were not compliant with deputies, but finally complied and exited the vehicle. Deputy Shockey located a loaded 9mm pistol near the vehicle that apparently was thrown out of the vehicle by the suspects when the vehicle crashed. The driver was a 16 year old juvenile. Deputy Shockey took the male juvenile into custody and transported him to appear before a Magistrate. The juvenile male was released to his parent. The investigation is continuing.
