The cause of an apartment fire in Lonaconing is due to the electrical failure of a toaster according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. The fire broke out at about 10:41am on May 23rdn in the kitchen of an apartment in a three story structure on Front Street in Lonaconing. The structure contains five apartments total. Three people were taken to the hospital, two from one apartment where the fire occurred and one for medical related issues. 75 firefighters were called to the scene and had the fire under control in about one hour. The fire caused about $225 thousand dollars in damage. The American Red Cross is assisting.
