Inmate Stabbed At WCI

An inmate at the Western Correctional Institution is hospitalized after a stabbing Sunday night. According to Mark Vernarelli spokesman for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services the fight happened in the dayroom of a housing unit just before 8pm Sunday. The fight involved two inmates and the injured inmate suffered puncture wounds. WCI medical personnel determined that he needed outside medical treatment. No staff were injured in the incident. Officers did recover a homemade weapon and WCI officers will be working with DPSCS detectives on the investigation.
