Inmate At NBCI Hospitalized Following Fight

An inmate at NBCI is hospitalized following a fight with another inmate. According to Mark Vernarelli with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services the 49 year old was hospitalized Wednesday night for observation after suffering several puncture wounds. Correctional officers at the maximum security prison intervened after two inmates were involved in a struggle inside a housing unit. Vernarelli says the injured inmate suffered several puncture wounds and was evaluated by prison medical staff. The second, a 33 year old inmate had no serious injuries. A weapon was recovered. No officers were injured. After a second evaluation, medical personnel decided to seek outside treatment for the inmate with the puncture wounds. DPSCS detectives are investigating.
