Hikes Scheduled for This Weekend At Rocky Gap State Park

Celebrate National Trails Day at Rocky Gap State Park .

Friday June 3rd
9:00 AM Lakeside Loop Hike – Celebrate National Trails Day with a variety of hikes this weekend! Meet at the Nature Center for this classic hike, taking on the longest trail that Rocky Gap has to offer. Hikers will enjoy this intermediate level, 5.3 mile long hike past beaver lodges and through hardwood forests surrounding scenic Lake Habeeb. This hike will take several hours and hikers should bring plenty of water and snacks.

Saturday June 4th
Celebrate National Trails Day with a variety of hikes and trail activities today!
9:00 AM Trail Trash Heros- Meet at the Rocky Gap Amphitheater for an active morning of volunteering. Work at your own pace, for as long as you want. A great opportunity for families. Participants will enjoy the great outdoors while helping to make the park cleaner, safer and even more beautiful. Gloves are available in limited quantities, so folks are encouraged to bring their own.
10:00 AM Native Plant Hike – Meet at the Nature Center to stroll along with our local expert and pick up some native plant knowledge! This is an educational hike that lasts approximately 1 hour.

11:00 AM Evitt’s Mountain Hike – Meet at the Touch of Nature Parking Lot for this hike, which is the most challenging hike Rocky Gap has to offer. Guided by one of the park Naturalists, hikers will enjoy the beautiful vistas at the top of Evitt’s Mountain. This hike will take several hours and hikers should be in good fitness and bring plenty of water and snacks.

1:00 PM Leave No Trace Hike – Meet at the Nature Center to hike up to an hour along Rocky Gap’s Lakeside Loop Trail and help naturalists beautify our park!
3:00 PM Canyon Overlook Hike – Meet at the Touch of Nature Parking Lot, to join us on this short hike through an old hemlock forest to view the “gap” of Rocky Gap. This hike will last approximately 45 minutes. This hike is great for beginners!
