GCSO Investigating Crash That Killed Two

The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single vehicle crash that killed two Garrett County residents. On May 22, 2021 an initial investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling on Maryland Highway near the intersection of Old Wilson Road when the operator, identified as 34-year-old Wayne Allen Moyer III, of Swanton, lost control of the vehicle, slid off the roadway, and struck a tree.

Moyer’s passenger, identified as 32-year-old Delena Nicole Hardesty, of Oakland, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Moyer was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital by MSP Trooper 5 Helicopter, where he later succumbed to his injuries sustained during the collision.

Deputies were assisted on the scene by members of Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department, Kitzmiller Volunteer Fire Department, Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, Bittinger Rescue Squad , and Southern Garrett Rescue Squad.

The investigation is ongoing by deputies.
