An investigation is underway after a fatal crash in Garrett County. According to the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office on Sept 18th at about 7:40pm deputies were called out to a motor vehicle collision on Oakland Drive at the intersection of Pensinger Blvd. The investigation indicates that Harold Fike of Oakland was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry eastbound on Oakland Drive when for unknown reasons he struck a John Deer riding mower from behind. The mower was being driven by 61 year old Freeman Eckenode of Mt Lake Park. Eckenode was taken to Garrett Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash.
