Daily COVID-19 Update

The Allegany County Health Department will hold two walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics on the ground floor of the Willowbrook Office Complex (12501 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD) on Wednesday, July 21. From 9 a.m. to noon both the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccines will be offered for those age 18 and older. Then, from 1 to 4 p.m. a Pfizer COVID vaccine clinic will be held for those age 12 and older. Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in order to be vaccinated.

The Allegany County Health Department reports that 40.3% of Allegany County residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 compared to 57.7% of all Marylanders.

Allegany County COVID-19 Case Statistics as of July 15:

• New COVID Cases: 1 (cumulative total 7,072)

• Additional Deaths: 0 (cumulative total 212)

• Cases Per 100,000 Population: 2.03 (Maryland: 2.05)

• Positivity Rate: 1.77 % (Maryland: 1.18%)

Due to the Allegany County Fair taking place this week, there will be NO COVID TESTING at the fairgrounds the week of July 19. Testing will resume July 26 on the usual schedule: Mondays 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There were no new cases reported in Grant County.

Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) is committed to returning all students back to in-person learning this fall. Based on data collected over the last month from families, GCPS does not intend to provide a virtual option this fall. Furthermore, please note the following additional information:

·GCPS will provide full in-person instruction 5 days a week in accordance with the school system calendar and;

·Will Implement normal school operating hours and;

·Will provide full access to campuses and facilities GCPS will continue to collaborate with the Garrett County Health Department to ensure the safety of students and staff.

We will follow all health and safety protocols that are in place at the time of the return in the fall and throughout the school year. It is our hope, however, that there will be minimal requirements for face coverings and physical distancing. GCPS will be working with various stakeholder groups in the coming weeks to formulate a formal reopening plan in accordance with MSDE guidance.
