Cumberland Police Investigate Series of Separate Incidents Involving Knives

Cumberland City Police have investigated a series of separate incidents involving knives during the past several days.  According to Cumberland Police:

On May 31, 2020, at 9:19 pm, officers from the Cumberland Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Virginia Avenue for a subject refusing to leave a residence. Officers were further advised that the subject refusing to leave had threatened the victims with a knife. When officers arrived on the scene they learned that Jordan Shook, age 34, of Cumberland, Maryland, had been in a dispute with the victims over money. During the argument, Shook threatened the victims with a knife and began demanding their money. The victims grabbed objects to defend themselves and Shook fled the scene. Officers in the area quickly located Shook and were able to corroborate the victim’s complaint. Shook was then taken into custody and charged with two counts of the following charges, armed robbery, robbery, first degree assault, second degree assault, and attempted theft under $100. Shook was later taken for his Initial Appearance in District Court. Following his hearing, he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.

On 05/30/2020 at approximately 8:00 PM the Cumberland City Police Department was dispatched to the 200 block of Utah Avenue for an assault. Upon arrival officers contacted the victim who advised they were thrown to the ground. The victim stated the suspect grabbed a large knife and threatened to stab them. Officers observed injuries to the victim and learned the suspect had fled prior to their arrival. Officers located the suspect, 21 year old Richard Alan Nair III a short distance away and placed him under arrest without issue. The victim did not require medical assistance. Mr. Nair was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance. Mr. Nair was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. He faces charges of Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure, and Reckless Endangerment

A Cumberland man faces disorderly conduct charges. According to Cumberland Police on 05/26/2020 at approximately 1:00 PM officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Greene Street for a male waving a large knife and walking into traffic. Officers arrived on scene and observed 24 year old Daniel Keith Gibson III waving a large knife drawing attention from passing motorists and individuals in the area. The officers were able to get Mr. Gibson to drop the knife and he was placed under arrest without issue. Mr. Gibson was transported to the police station and issued a criminal citation. Mr. Gibson was released on the citation pending trial in District Court.
