Cumberland Man Behind Bars After Brandishing A Weapon

A Cumberland man is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on assault charges. According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office on 06/02/20, at approximately 6pm Deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of Naves Crossroads business for a report of a man with a gun. During the course of the investigations it was learned that a male subject had driven to a Cumberland business and exited his vehicle wielding a camouflage rifle. The man approached a female patron who was seated in an outside dining area and pointed the rifle at her. Two male patrons intervened and wrestled the rifle from the man who then fled the area on foot.

After a brief search, deputies located the man hiding in a drainage ditch along the west bound ramp to interstate 68. Deputies placed the subject under arrest and the man was identified as Kevin Lee Morgan age 57 years old of Cumberland.

Morgan was transported to UPMC Western Maryland for treatment of minor injuries sustained while attempting to hide in the drainage ditch. After his discharge, Deputies took Morgan into custody and transported him to District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance where he was charged with the following:

1 st Degree Assault

2 nd Degree Assault

Firearm Possession /Use in Commission of Felony/Crime of Violence Morgan is being held without bond in the Allegany County Detention Center
