Cumberland Man Arrested on Robbery Charges

A Cumberland man is arrested on robbery charges. According to Cumberland Police Tuesday, November 24th, 2020 at 7:50 pm, officers were dispatched to Virginia Avenue for a robbery. While enroute, officers were informed that a witness to the incident was pursuing the suspect on foot. Officers located the witness along Maryland Avenue who pointed out the suspect identified as 20 year old Bruce Ruth III, of Cumberland, Maryland. Officers advised Ruth to stop, but Ruth refused to follow officer’s instructions, and refused to stop. Officers pursuing Ruth advised him he was under arrest, but Ruth resisted officers attempting to apprehend him. Ruth was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.

Officers learned through their investigation that Ruth had approached the victim in a parking lot on Virginia Avenue. Ruth then ran up behind the victim, pulled them to the ground, and forcefully took the victims purse before fleeing the area.

Ruth was arrested and charged with robbery, assault 2nd degree, theft $100-$1500, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstructing and hindering. He was later taken to District Court for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
