A Cumberland man is arrested on assault charges. According to Cumberland Police on 07/12/2020 the Cumberland City Police served an arrest warrant on 30 year old Jonathan Orville Weinberger. The warrant was issued from an assault which took place on 07/11/2020 in the 700 block of Maryland Avenue. Officers learned Mr. Weinberger had thrown the victim on the floor and attempted to smother them with a pillow. The victim was able to escape the residence by knocking out a window and fleeing to a neighbor’s house. Officers observed injuries on the victim consistent with their account of the assault. Officers then learned the victim had a protective order out of New Jersey against the suspect. The victim did not require medical treatment. Mr. Weinberger was taken before a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. The charges include Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, False Imprisonment, and Violation of out of State Protective Order
