Cumberland Man Arrested on Assault Charges

A Cumberland man is arrested on assault charges. According to Cumberland Police December 6, 2019, officersresponded to a Spring Street residence for a report of an assault. Officers arrived and learned that Aaron Devone Manning had arrived at the residence irate over an issue. Manning forced his way into the house assaulting one subject who lived there before fleeing. Officers checked the area for Manning, but could not locate him. Once the victim and other witnesses were interviewed, officers cleared and applied for charges at District Court.

On December 7, 2019, officers were called back the Spring Street for a report of an assault involving a handgun. Officers arrived and contacted several subjects near the residence. They stated that they had been walking back from the store when they were confronted by Manning. During the confrontation, Manning made several threats and brandished a handgun. The victims fled the area on foot and contacted police. Officers again attempted to locate Manning but were unsuccessful in locating him. Officers applied for charges at District Court on this incident.

A joint investigation between the Combined County Criminal Investigations Unit (C3I), the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the Cumberland Police Department led to the discovery that Manning was inside of a Hillcrest Drive residence. A search and seizure warrant was executed at the Hillcrest Drive residence on December 9, 2019, with the assistance from the Washington County Special Response Team, and the Cumberland Police Emergency Response Team (CERT). Manning was located inside the residence and was taken into custody without incident. During the search of the residence, additional items were seized and additional charges are pending as a result of the search and seizure warrant. Manning was transported to the Cumberland Police Department and was served with three arrest warrants. He was transported to Central Booking, where he was seen by a District Court Commissioner. Manning was remained to the Allegany County Detention Center without bail.
