COVID-19 Outbreak At Church In Hampshire County

A Mother’s Day church service in Hampshire County has lead to an outbreak of COVID-19. According to Hampshire County Health Department Local Health Administrator Stephanie Shoemaker a service was held May10th at the church where about 30 people were in attendance. “Individuals were becoming symptomatic and went to their local providers to receive testing and when it came back positive through contact tracing we identified additional people that were having symptoms and we hadthem go to their local providers for testing and it just snowballed from there.” 9 positive COVID-19 cases have been linked to that service. The church is currently closed to in person service and will continue to be closed for now. She says officials with the church have been cooperative and are following the CDC guidelines.Shoemaker says overall Hampshire County has fared well during the pandemic although this has been a rough week in terms of the increased number of cases. She says residents need to continue to be cautious, wear masks and continue social distancing.
