Construction Underway On New Roundabout On I-68

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin construction this week on a new roundabout on eastbound I-68 (National Freeway) and US 219 (Chestnut Ridge Road) in Garrett County. Crews expect to complete the work within two weeks.

MDOT SHA contractor Triton Construction, Inc. of St. Albans, WV, is performing the work, which is part of a project to expand US 219 to a four-lane divided highway between I-68 and Old Salisbury Road. Learn more about the project here.

Starting at noon today, crews will close the I-68 entrance ramp at US 219. The following detour will be posted:

Motorists on I-68 eastbound headed to US 219 will continue on I-68 to Exit 24, Lower New Germany Road. From the exit, follow the detour signs and turn left onto Lower New Germany Road to the stop sign. Turn left onto US 40 Alternate westbound to US 219.

Motorists traveling on US 219 to I-68 eastbound will take US 219 to the traffic signal. Turn right onto US 40 Alternate eastbound to Lower New Germany Road. Turn right onto Lower New Germany Road and continue to the on ramp for I-68 eastbound.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
