Cause of Fire in Lonaconing Ruled Accidental

The cause of a structure fire in Lonaconing is ruled accidental. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshall’s office the blaze broke out in the ceiling of a second floor bedroom of a two story single family home on Peking Street May 25th at about 2:30pm . The cause was accidental electrical due to wiring connected to a ceiling fan.The fire was contained to the ceiling area of the bedroom. Investigators credit the quick response and action of Barton Hose Company for containing the fire as well as installing (2) smoke alarms within the home after the fire. 35 firefighters were called to the scene and had the fire under control in about 10 minutes. The fire caused about six thousand dollars in damage.
