Cause of Christmas Day Fire Under Investigation

The cause of a three alarm blaze in Cumberland is under investigation. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office the blaze broke out in the 3rd floor rear kitchen area of a three story building on Columbia Street at about 11:29 am on Christmas Day. 60 firefighters were called to the scene and battled the blaze for more than an hour. One individual was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and refused treatment. The fire caused about $52,500 in damage. The fire was discovered by an occupant of the home. The Office of the State Fire Marshal was assisted Cumberland City’s Fire Marshal’s Office. The occupant was taken to local shelter.
