Accident Man Faces Drug Charges

An Accident man faces drug charges following a traffic stop. According to Cumberland Police on July 27th, 2020, an Officer with the Cumberland City Police conducted a traffic stop in on Interstate 68 in the area of Fletcher Ave. Contact was made with the occupants of the vehicle, including the male operator who was found to have given the officer a false name. During the course of the traffic stop, the male exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the subject was apprehended in the area of Greene St. A subsequent search of the male subject yielded a quantity of suspected heroin indicating intentions to sell the same. A firearm was also located inside the suspect’s vehicle during a subsequent search. The subject, Johnathon Ray Cook, 34, of Accident MD, was also found to be prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. As a result, Cook was charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of heroin, fail to obey, resisting arrest, possession of firearm in connection with drug trafficking crime, illegal possession of firearm, fleeing, driving suspended/revoked. Cook was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center on a temporary commitment.
