AC Commissioners Expected to Vote to Cancel AC Fair Tonight

The Allegany County Commissioners are expected to take up a variety of issues during their regular business meeting tonight including the cancellation of the 2020 Allegany County Fair and Ag Expo. According to a statement from Commission President Jake Shade “Unfortunately we have been forced to cancel the fair this year. This wasn’t an easy decision but with the lack of participation from the Maryland Agricultural Extension due to state regulations, and the likely continuing restrictions on large groups we didn’t feel it was possible to move forward even in July. We aren’t entirely sure if the vendors would have been able to attend. If we did not make a decision in the next few days the county would have lost over $40,000 in prepayments that were made to performers for the concert series, which we will now be fully refunded. I hope we can return to normal as soon as possible and look forward to hosting the fair in July 2021.”

During the business meeting the commissioners are also expected to approve the appointment of Jason Bennett as the Interim County Administrator.

The meeting will be held tonight at 5pm at the Allegany County Office Building on Kelly Road.

A live feed of the proceedings will be available on the County ’s websitealleganygov.org at 5 pm . Citizens wishing to address the Board may do so by e-mailing comments to the County Administrator at [email protected] by 2 pm today
