A VA Woman Faces Charges Following A Dog Bite Investigation

A Virginia woman faces charges after allegedly giving a false name and information to police during a dog bite investigation. According to Frostburg City Police on Thursday, July 8, 2021, Frostburg City Police served a criminal summons for Tracey Dianne Mock, 55, of Leesburg, Virginia, for providing false information after her dog bit an 8-year-old girl. On Thursday, May 13, 2021, at 1:51 p.m., a Frostburg City Police Officer was on foot patrol on Main Street when the officer encountered individuals who had just been involved in a dog bite incident.

In speaking with the parties, the officer learned that an adult male and an adult female (Mock) were walking with their dog on the sidewalk when the dog bit an 8-year-old girl. The girl’s mother and the dog’s owners spoke with the officer who attempted to complete an animal bite report and ensure that the proper information was exchanged.

Mock told the officer she had no identification with her, but she provided a name and contact information to the mother and the officer. Mock then requested to put the dog away in her nearby

car and said she would be right back. She never returned.

Officers attempted to contact her only to learn that the name, address, and phone number she provided were false.

The 8-year-old girl was taken for medical care due to the bite wound, which punctured the skin, and had to go through rabies treatment as a precaution, because Mock provided false information and fled.

Officers located video surveillance at a local business showing the Mock, and police posted it to social media seeking the public’s assistance. A business reported that the couple had been in

their business and paid by credit/debit card.

FPD Officers then contacted the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office and requested and obtained a subpoena for the card account holder’s identification information. Upon receiving the

information, police learned that Mock lived in Leesburg, Virginia.

Frostburg City Police contacted Virginia State Police in Leesburg, who assisted with identifying the female suspect via her driver’s license photograph and then attempting to locate her. The

female suspect was then identified as Tracey Dianne Mock, 55, of Leesburg, Va.

Mock was charged with Making a False Statement to a Police Officer and Obstructing & Hindering a Police Officer and is pending trial in District Court.

The Frostburg City Police Department thanks the local businesses that assisted in providing information, members of the public who helped share information when trying to identify the suspect, and Virginia State Police.
