Ridgeley Man Charged with DUI Following Crash

A Ridgeley man faces DUI charges after a crash on Route 220 last night. According to officials with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office on September 10, 2019 at approximately 8:43 p.m. deputies responded to the intersection of Route 220 south and Route 956, Rawlings, MD for a report of motor vehicle crash with reported injuries.

Upon arrival deputies determined that a 2012 Ford pickup truck operated by, 62 year old  Todd Sloane of Ridgeley, WV had been traveling south on Rt. 220 when he attempted to turn onto Rt. 956. Sloane’s vehicle pulled into the path of a northbound Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 21 year old Tanner Van Meter of Rawlings, MD.

Van Meter was initially transported to the Western Maryland Health System for treatment of serious injuries. He was later transferred to the University of Maryland’s Shock Trauma in Baltimore, MD.

During the course of the investigation deputies detected the odor of alcohol emanating from Mr. Sloane. Mr. Sloane was administered “Standardized Field Sobriety Tests” and was subsequently placed under arrest for D.U.I. relates charges.

Crash Reconstructionists with the Sheriff’s Office, and Cumberland City Police responded to the scene, and are continuing to investigate the collision.

The Cresaptown Vol. Fire Department, and EMS division also responded to the scene. Rt. 220 remained closed for approximately 2 hours.
