Oakland Fire Ruled Accidental

The cause of a fire in Oakland is ruled accidental due to an overcurrent. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office the blaze broke out in the basement of a single family ranch style home on Hutton Road in Oakland on Sept 14th at about 1:25pm. Crews were tree cutting on an adjacent property and struck high tension electrical lines which caused the overcurrent into the home and ignited a fire. The smoke alarms did not activate due to dead batteries. The damage to the home was about $100,000 and was extensive in the basement with smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the home. 25 firefighters had the blaze under control in about 40 minutes. The occupants were displaced but are being assisted by family.
